The website Electrical-Engineering Portal shared some information on electrical maintenance in buildings.
“Apart from safety, maintenance is needed to keep plant in an acceptable condition. Maintenance of this kind must be reviewed on an economic and energy efficiency basis. While it is appreciated that breakdown of plant may result in costly interruption of normal building operation, it must also be borne in mind that stopping plant for maintenance can also cause a loss in production. Equipment on continuous and arduous duty, e.g. switchboards, motor control centres (MCCs), air-handling units, chiller plant etc., require more attention than that which is lightly loaded and rarely used.”

Risk assessment becomes a more exact science and the potential behaviors of each monitored asset and can be used to better prioritize capital and operational expenditures. Additional savings are realized when considering the costs that “could have been,” including loss of power, replacement equipment, lost productivity, additional man hours, etc., when a major failure is avoided.”

“Maintenance staff at the world’s largest hydroelectric plant show they have a head for heights as they get to work. But these brave employees at the famed Three Gorges Dam insist their job is nothing out of the ordinary, despite the heart-stopping scenery below them. Ensuring electricity is safely transported across the massive power lines to the rest of the country is no easy task and certainly not one for the faint-hearted. The daredevils criss-cross high above giant rivers, regularly working at more than 650 feet in the air in the process, reports the People’s Daily Online. Ho Ku, 39, is one of the fearless workers involved in the job – and modestly insists it’s just another day in the office when he gets started. He said: ‘I know it looks pretty impressive but to be honest you don’t really think about it when you’re up there. It’s just a job like any other.’”
